- Fine-grained structural steel for pressure vessels. A/SA 516 Gr.60+N steel is characterized by good weldability and high resistance to brittle cracking.
- These types are used above all for manufacturing vessels for pressurized gas (LPG, butane, and propane tanks), pressure vessels, parts for steam boilers, pressure piping, compressors, etc.
- Their most widespread use is in application environments lower than -20 ºC.
A/SA 516 Gr.60+N steel is supplied in the normalized condition. The normalizing temperature is 900 – 950 ºC, and it must be left in the furnace after temperature equalizing for approximately 1 minute per millimeter of the thickness of the plate. As a result, it offers good cold-forming and hot-forming properties without negatively affecting the material properties.
The fine-grained structural steel in this series can be perfectly welded, both manually and using automatic equipment, using all known welding processes. Our SA 516 Gr 60 HIC and SA 516 Gr 70 HIC are two or the more popular HIC tested grades used in wet/sour gas environments.
These SA 516 HIC-tested steels are vacuum degassed with extra low sulfur, phosphorus, and residual elements for maximum resistance to sulfide stress corrosion, HIC, and notch toughness sensitivity.
These plates are used in the pressure vessel industry and primarily in refineries, chemical plants, and power plants.

SPECIFICATION
- Grade ASME SA 516 GR.70N Boiler and Pressure Vessel Steel Plates
- Width 1000mm-4500mm
- Thickness 5mm-150mm
- Length 3000mm-18000mm
Supply Condition As Rolled, Normalized Rolling, Furnace Normalizing, Vacuum Degassing, Simulated Post-Weld Heat Treatment, or as per customer requirement.
Impact tested 52° C
Tempering Notch toughness can be improved by quenched cooling from hot rolling or normalizing by the supplier. If such a faster cooling rate is agreed upon between the purchaser and supplier then the steel is also to be tempered at 1200 F.
Applications Used for weld fabrication of pressure vessels that require improved notch toughness for lower than ambient temperature service.
Process of Manufacturing Hot-Rolled (HR) Testing-
The test requirements or needs can be easily fulfilled through a test like chemical composition analysis, material grain size determination, line discontinuities, freedom from defects, tolerance and dimensions, bend test, tensile test, Charpy impact test, and ultrasonic test. Some other test includes the Destructive test or nondestructive test, Mechanical test, tensile test, hardness test, micro & macro test, positive material test, intergranular corrosion test, flattening test, and flaring test.
